  7. Jason Compton resigns from VISCorp
  8.  
  9. As  of  December  16,  1996  Jason  will no longer be employed by VIScorp in any
  10. fashion.
  11. Jason  Compton  is the editor of `Amiga Report' one of the longest running Amiga
  12. news and information publications.

  16. UN to examine digital media copyright
  17.  
  18. With  the  ever  expanding  network of computers (InterNet) piracy has become an
  19. ever  increasing problem.  The UN is to look at ways to protect the intellectual
  20. property.  Basicly that the transmission of copyrighted material will be treated
  21. in the same way as hard copies.

  27. VISCorp  still  haven't obtaind the rights to the Amiga and are doing their best
  28. to  stop  any  other  companies  from  using  the Copyrighted Amiga hardware and
  29. software.   Not  only  are they producing very little momentum themselfs but are
  30. also trying to stop any indipendent momentum on the Amiga front.  Far from being
  31. the  saviour  of  the  Amiga  VISCorp  have  seemed  to  have  turned  into it's
  32. executioner.

  36. Stealth Virus declared FAKE!

  38. The US Government has declared the recent talk about `Stealth Virus' to be a
  39. hoax (I wounder how many TAX $ were spent to find that out).

  43. AmiTCP/IP backdoor
  44.  
  45. Ami TCP/IP seems to have a bug in it that allows anyone with the knowlage to use
  46. the finger to gain full unrestricted access to you system (when connected to the
  47. net ofcourse).

  49. To stop this you can edit the file
  50.  
  51. etc:inetd.conf
  52.  
  53. and edit out the finger command (put a # at the begining of the line).
  54.  
  55. Or  you  can  use a safe finger replacement, there are many on AmiNet now and on
  56. many top BBS.

  60. Backdoor in AmIRC ?

  62. What is it this month backdoors in all the popular Amiga internet utilities.?!?!

  64. Anyhow  if  you  are  using  a  version of AmIRC 1.0 or below then don't use any
  65. scripts  that  make  use of the CTCP sound commands.  As users can cause trouble
  66. with  this  command.   This has been fixed in the newer versions of AmIRC but to
  67. use the newer versions you need to be registered.

  71. Digital TV and Set-top boxs

  73. Digital TV broad casts in Europe are due to start in 1997 according to BSkyB who
  74. are hopping to stat shipping settop boxs in the latter half or 1997.

  76. Amstrad  have be said to be working/produced a settop box for use in the home on
  77. a  standard  TV.   With full internet software held on a EPROM that can easly be
  78. updated online or via a cd-rom.

  80. BT  are  said to have finished their settop design based on a low spec PC and it
  81. is rumoured to be priced at arround 200 UK pounds.

  83. VISCorp still dreaming of a set top box, come on boys you've only got a few more
  84. months before the standard is set.

  88. UK Phone market opens up
  89.  
  90. 1997  will  see  the  opening  up of the UK phone market, many have predicted an
  91. aggressive campain by the American phone companies.

  95. Well thats about all this issue sadly the Amiga as a computer is still undecided
  96. and  my hat goes off to all the software and hardware developers that have stuck
  97. with it.
